It is not entirely by accident that I am spending a week in London after my conference in Rome. It is no secret that this year there is only one ordination candidate due to graduate from Trinity College Theological School. If we don’t source more ordinands and provide them with curacies in Melbourne we will have difficulties in filling vacancies in our parishes. Where will we get a replacement at HTSH when I fall off the perch (no personal plans to do so but the catholic wing of the church needs to be forward thinking)? We need to make the most of the graduates we have, and if they have travelled overseas, then we need to get them back (eventually).
To this end I dined with two ‘bright young things’ at the Oxford & Cambridge Club in Pall Mall.
Tomorrow I am on another such mission – to the ends of the London tube system – but more on that later.
