A brand new grill restaurant at Hotel Café Royal on London’s Regent Street by internationally renowned chef Laurent Tourondel and with a £5m fit-out designed by Piero Lissoni. Laurent is best known in America where he has restaurants in New York, Miami and Charlotte in North Carolina. Total glamour and highly suitable for entertaining the Rector of the Melbourne Chapter of the (Anglican) Society of Catholic Priests, my neighbour from St Peter’s Box Hill, Fr Shane Hubner.
We began with a glass of Laurent-Perrier NV champagne, and then a bottle of 2008 Domaine du Colombier Hermitage. Superb.
The two-fromage soufflé brioche was simply exquisite.
For appetisers we had a grilled peach salad with shaved fennel, Montgomery cheese and a champagne and mustard seed dressing.
This was followed by an Aberdeen Angus ribeye.
But wait there was more. For desert we shared a raspberry and blueberry soufflé. Heavenly.
And a dessert wine from South Australia, just to keep our exports afloat, with a single malt chaser.
Great food and great company.
