I hadn’t expected to make my West End debut in quite such an impromptu manner.

In a rather Dame Edna-esque manner, King Charles II, picked me out as ’the old man in the second row‘ and proceeded to refer to me through the play as ‘Father Time’, the ‘Ancient One’ and hoped I make through to the end of the play.
The play ended with the words ‘God save the King, and long live the Ancient Man’, with the King and cast pointing to me. Quite humbling. My first bow in the Garrick Theatre.

Not for this aspect alone, this is a very funny play written by Simon Nye and directed by Olivier Award nominee Sean Foley. Starring Al Murray (‘The Pub Landlord’) as Charles II, it was a romp about a plan to steal the Crown Jewels. It was very funny and Murray was hilarious as the King.
Don’t miss it.
Laughter reigned.
Such fun Ian. King Charles made a great choice
