Heading to Scotland and not wishing to waste a day on a train, I took the Caledonian sleeper overnight to Inverness.

I left my suitcase in safe custody at Euston and set off on my overnight journey. The room was comfortable though narrow, bit I had to go to another carriage to find a working toilet. Also there was a child in the adjoining cabin – no further comment needed.

I had a surprisingly good sleep and the train was relatively smooth compared to the old ‘Southern Aurora’ days.
